There are many reasons a person may have bad breath, also known as halitosis. Bad breath is caused by bacteria. It can be the result of plaque, cavities or gum disease. You may have a medical condition, eat certain foods or improper dental hygiene may by the culprit. You may not even realize others are offended every time you speak. How many people will honestly tell you that your breath stinks?? It doesn’t only affect adults. Have you ever hugged a child first thing in the morning?
We also know that certain foods can cause bad breath. When not rinsed properly, decaying food in between the teeth can leave behind an awful odor. Smoking and alcohol also affect one’s breath. Medical problems such as, infections in the lungs, nose, bronchitis, sinusitis and postnasal drip all cause a problem too.
People try to mask the odor by using mouthwash, chewing gum or sucking on mints. How long does that last? If you really want to get rid of bad breath you must be proactive. A dental visit will rule out cavities and gum disease. A hygiene appointment will remove the plaque and tartar. Then starting a daily hygiene routine that properly cleans your teeth and reduces the amount of bacteria will help. Keeping to a regular schedule with your hygienist will maintain your hard work. In the end, you’ll feel better, more importantly, you will smell better!
